Resource Kit
So, I’ve been a learner all my life. I’ m never without wonder, or inquisitive thoughts, and certainly-- hard questions…about all the things. Seeking to understand is part of how I’ m wired. If I’m generous, I’d say it’s a gift. That desire to know and understand spans topics and ideas, and one of the questions that drives much of my life' s work is the question of our big why.
Why are we chosen for this moment in time?
What is the unique call of each of our lives?
How can we honor the gift of our unique and unduplicated presence on earth?
The conversation about destiny hits different for me for so many reasons. One: the concept cements holy imagination in a new way. Like -- can you even grasp the idea that God’ s thoughts about each of us were so tailored? HE. TOOK.HIS.TIME. Whew! Another: it is fuel for a faith-driven pursuit of the things that I can’ t even see--the things that are bigger than me! There are others, and we’ll take the month to explore the depth of the destinations, but you must know, this conversation never gets old to me. It fuels so much of what I know I’m called to do. I hope you’ll feel that same zeal.
The joy of this installment of the summer reading journey is even more special because as I share it with you, I get to, in a refreshing way, celebrate and share the gift of our author. He’ s the pastor and bishop to many, a leader, business mogul, mentor and friend to others. All of those, and still, I get to call him Daddy. Bishop TD Jakes, my father. This is a gift of my life.
Yep, we’re reading Destiny by Bishop Jakes. And I’ m unashamedly excited! I won’t run his resume because to know anything about me is to know that I come from a bloodline of a man who has shifted and influenced culture and pointed them to Jesus. His revelation for helping us understand the theological framework of our life’ s why is beyond belief. I’ve watched his commitment to it for my entire life. So, I know it’ s real. His many, many books, businesses, and successes are notable, no doubt, and yet - they don’t do justice to what it’ s meant for his heart to be a home.
This conversation will fill and fuel us. I just know it. And how we’ll embrace the nuance of ourselves and our whys will be a space that will change us for the rest of our days.
Are you with me?
Always love,
