A NOTE FROM SJR
Let’s do something together really quick. I know, I know - this isn’t normally the space for this
kind of experience, but I want to take a pause with you. Yes--you with this letter in hand and your
summer box awaiting, and me - wherever it is that the Lord has me stationed and listening. Let’s
take a breath together. Let’s do it now.
Whew. Ok. I don’t know about you, but I needed that.
See, the thing is this: summertime is a different pace for many of us - for some, it’s figuring out
how to keep the kids active, out of the pantry every five minutes, and entertained; for others,
it’s the task to remain connected to ourselves as the weather bears down on us and our edges;
and for others, it’s weighing the to-dos of daily adulthood with figuring out how to make space
to take the break many of us so deeply need. Even when (or if!) the summer offers a schedule
slowdown, our busy minds don’t always take that cue. And that’s why we need a breath. Or, as
many as we can take. We need to remind ourselves that pulling back from all the demands won’t
slow down progress, but it’ll be the care and respite that will give us the perspective shift to stay
the course.
For me, a breath feels easier when I can move from my daily demands and be welcomed into
the experience of another. So, a beautiful story with a heartfelt message is where I love to land.
And, as I’ve heard from so many of you over the years, you quite enjoy it too. So, we’re back with a
moving and resonating novel this month: Hidden Blessings by Kim Cash Tate.
Kim isn’t new to the Club. We experienced the brilliance of her mind last year, and we get
the chance to encounter her gift again, as she shares another story that holds a mirror to the
human heart placed in God’s hands. She is an author, Bible teacher, and speaker, and her knack
for threading each part of her vision into the very relatable pages of this story is such a gift. I
hope that energy fuels our discussions this month and invites us to honest tables where hard
conversations feel safe.
So, will you join me in taking your moments, cherishing those deep breaths, and allowing
yourself space? You deserve that...and then some.
To joy, rest, and sunshine,
