It is no secret that this community is one of the great joys of my life. That we get to share and see each other and aren’t limited to immediate proximity is a special and generous gift. I love that we connect across the various places we call home, and as we do life differently, our connections can still bud and grow before laying actual eyes on each other. We’ve created a culture where prayer is invited at a distance. We come alongside each other in ways that make our lives fuller, near and far. We do sisterhood in a real way no matter where life leads us. And for me, this experience is another of the ways God’s love becomes tangible. I really, really love it here.
The other side of seeing each other, though, can pose a different kind of opportunity. As we watch life unfold for others, both friends we know in real life and the internet besties whose lives we follow as we scroll, it can become easy to compare--what they have and do, the experience of their lives in contrast to our own, and the optics of others that make us measure. It’s the comparison game and it’s one that we can’t and won’t let win.
I want us to talk about this, get to the root, and learn ways to see each other (and ourselves) the way our Father in his wisdom designed us to--with grace, love, kindness and the kind of faith that lends itself freely.
So we’re going to dive in and do some work this month, ok? Our book, Killing Comparison, is the type of resetting, gathering, get-us-together-in-love moment that helps us return to what is true. And I’m glad to journey through a body of work that will guide our discussion well. And THIS AUTHOR? Whew. Let me tell you something about Nona. She is THE ONE and the two, ok? A highly credentialed business maven, a ministry powerhouse, a wife, mom, fitness enthusiast and an all around fly girl. Her resume is thick, and her insights on life, faith, and wellness abound. And you know what else? Her testimony of transcending and thriving is grace-laden in ways that remind us of God’s tenderness. I know you’re going to love her!
I love that we can lean into the hard and heart things and become better for having done it. A gift indeed.
