Resource Kit

The power of a story is transcendent. It’ s almost my most favorite vehicle for learning. It teaches with a special telling and invites with a human touch. The way we learn by witnessing, telling and holding stories dear is such a tender and beautiful space. This is why I love novels so much.

Miss Pearly’ s Girls is a heart-tugging story about sisters. It’ s a story about healing. It’ s a story that will show us the power of showing up and doing the work that sometimes challenges us to change the inner narrative and believe what God said when perhaps it is not what we feel. That’ word for somebody. Anyway, this story is one of the reads that we’ s all chat about, shake our heads to, and imagine what we’d do if the characters’ shoes were ours. It’ s gonna be a time.

ReShonda Tate Billingsley, the brilliant author of this tale, has a special gift for writing the stories that hold a mirror to the human heart. With more than fifty books on her resume, she has found a special place and is working her purpose…and pen. Her storytelling style, complete with imagery, candor and flair makes her books the kind you dive in, stay in, and tell your homegirls about. I hope that energy fuels our discussions this month and invites us to honest tables where hard conversations feel safe.

As always, my hope and prayer for this month is that we’ll allow what we read and learn to light up a part of our souls and increase our sight for our own lives. I believe there is always something to see if we set our mind to receive. That takes courage, and that you’re here with us right now? I know you’ve got it.

To my sisters, to my friends -- know I love you. Real bad.
